Toyota Plans China-Only Range Extenders From 2027

Toyota will reportedly start building range-extender EVs in China in April 2027, targeting 200,000 units that year and 400,000 annually by 2028. The yet-unnamed models use a small gasoline engine as a generator, not to drive the wheels, and stay China-only. Toyota sold 200,000 EVs and 4.433 million hybrids worldwide in 2025.
