Configuring QoS on a router fixed lag during big downloads by prioritizing traffic. Setting download and upload speeds to 90% of bandwidth gave the router headroom to manage congestion. For older routers, flashing OpenWrt and enabling SQM with fq_codel provided stable ping but reduced throughput to 300Mbps.
