Apple withdrew Advanced Data Protection for new UK users on 21 February 2025 after a secret UK Technical Capability Notice reportedly ordered access to encrypted iCloud data worldwide. Existing UK users keep ADP; new users cannot enable it. The standoff sets a precedent for WhatsApp, Signal and any service relying on end-to-end encryption.
