Tencent tests Xiaowei AI assistant inside WeChat

Tencent is testing Xiaowei, a native AI assistant, on a small scale within Weixin, the Chinese version of WeChat. Users can interact via text or voice, communicate with friends, and launch mini-programs. WeChat and Weixin have over 1.4 billion monthly active users combined, giving Tencent a large base to challenge rivals like Alibaba, DeepSeek, and Zhipu.
