Scientists created the first viruses designed by AI, bacteriophages that killed antibiotic-resistant E coli in lab tests. Stanford's Dr Brian Hie used genome language models Evo1 and Evo2, trained on 2 million bacteriophages, to design the genomes, raising urgent biosafety and biosecurity concerns.
