Postgres survived its own creators

Postgres, created by Michael Stonebraker, was abandoned in the mid-1990s. A volunteer community salvaged the codebase, adding standard SQL while preserving its extensible architecture. Three decades later, the database is a bedrock of modern cloud infrastructure, exemplifying open source independence.
