Two Linux computers can transfer files over a direct Ethernet patch cable using IPv6 addresses and socat, reaching about 900 Mbits/second or 6.7 GB per minute. This beats USB flash drives and cloud storage for files over 10 GB between nearby machines. Ethernet resists interference and works without a network switch.
