India's National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced a Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) for select UPI Person-to-Merchant transactions, effective October 15. A 0.4% fee applies to transactions above ₹2,000, capped at ₹300. Essential sectors like railways and telecom will pay a flat ₹5 fee. Person-to-Person transactions and small merchants remain exempt.
