Claude Code silently deletes chat transcripts after 30 days

Claude Code's cleanupPeriodDays setting defaults to 30 days, wiping conversation transcripts without user notification. The setting runs every time the app starts, deleting older.jsonl files. Anthropic says the policy is documented and exists as a security measure. Users report no install-time disclosure or first-run dialog about the deletion.
