Venture firms are buying legacy companies outright and rebuilding them around AI, a strategy called the AI rollup. General Catalyst and Trian took Janus Henderson private for $7.6 billion in December. Long Lake Management agreed to buy American Express Global Business Travel for $6.3 billion at a 65% premium in May.
