New light-powered chip could accelerate AI and quantum computing

Monash University scientists built a chip that generates, directs, and reads light signals within a single device. The integrated circuit uses valleytronics and ultra-thin materials to encode data via a quantum property called the valley degree of freedom. The breakthrough was published in Nature Photonics.
