Southern Water Trials Fiber-Optic Leak Detection

Southern Water is trialing Lightsonic technology that turns Openreach fiber cables into underground leak sensors, analyzing light vibrations to locate escaping water. The system already prevents over four million liters of daily loss across 650 km. The utility aims to meet Ofwat's 2030 leakage targets after England's driest summer left most of the country in drought.
