Amazon Admits No Net-Zero Plan by 2040

Amazon's chief sustainability officer Kara Hurst said Tuesday the company does not know how it will achieve its net-zero carbon emissions goal by 2040, despite being one of the largest clean energy purchasers with 42 gigawatts in its portfolio. The admission came at an Axios event, highlighting a contradiction between its climate leadership claims and its recent plans for a 7.65 gigawatt natural gas power plant to support AI data centers, which could emit 33 million tons of CO2 annually.
