NASA awarded Stone Aerospace $175,000 to develop a laser-powered, tethered drone for exploring lunar caves. The power-over-fiber design provides data transmission, electrical power, and thrust. The drone will descend into the Mare Tranquillitatis skylight, a 436-foot-deep cave portal near the Apollo 11 landing site.
