Meta quietly removes face-recognition code from its smart glasses app

Meta released an update on June 5 that removed dormant facial recognition code, internally called Name Tag, from the Meta AI app for its smart glasses. Wired uncovered the code on June 4. The tool would have converted faces into biometric identifiers stored on-device for cross-referencing.
