Windows Device ID Tied Hacker to Jewelry Heist

A persistent Windows device ID helped FBI trace alleged Scattered Spider hacker Peter Stokes to a May 2025 intrusion at a luxury jewelry retailer. Microsoft records linked the ID to accounts used in the attack. Stokes, 19, is charged with conspiracy, computer intrusion, and fraud after extradition from Finland.
