TRM Labs Finds AI Agents Rarely Pay

TRM Labs analyzed the x402 network in September 2025 and found $52.7 million settled across 198.9 million transactions since May 2025. After screening out self-payments and bulk flows, the firm estimated only 0.6% to 7.5% of the remaining $25.62 million was plausibly initiated by an AI agent.
