Anthropic's September 2026 threat report revealed Iran-linked actors and Houthi rebels used its Claude AI for military purposes. An Iran-linked actor used Claude for reconnaissance and targeting recommendations against U.S. naval forces, combining satellite imagery and transponder data. A Houthi cell used Claude Code to develop guidance software for ballistic missiles and a hypersonic glide vehicle. Iran also used Claude for surveillance, analyzing tweets to profile opposition individuals.
