LibreOffice 26.8 Ships Without AI by Default

The Document Foundation released LibreOffice 26.8 on 26 August 2026 with no AI in its default installation. The project says no current integration meets its conditions: user-controlled inference, no content leaving the computer without authorisation, no telemetry, no single-provider lock-in, ODF output and full removability. Users wanting AI can install third-party extensions, mostly connecting to local models.
