AMD has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Taalas, a Toronto-based AI inference chip startup founded in 2023. Taalas' HC1 test chip, fabbed on TSMC's 6nm process, served Meta's Llama 3.1 8B at 16,960 tokens per second. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
