Who needs a real-time database?

A developer argues that kdb+ systems should not default to real-time databases (rdbs). Benchmarks show on-disk historical databases (hdbs) with a warm OS page cache perform nearly as fast as rdbs. Hdbs allow parallel queries, simpler architecture, and lower memory costs, making rdbs optional for many use cases.
