Canonical Moves Ubuntu to Weekly Kernel Releases

Canonical is switching Ubuntu kernel Stable Release Updates to overlapping two-week cycles that publish a kernel every week, replacing four-week regular and two-week security cycles. The company blames an explosion of CVEs from AI-assisted bug hunting and the Linux kernel becoming a CVE Numbering Authority in 2024. It also aims to offer workarounds within 24 to 48 hours of disclosure.
