Victor Ayomipo built a Chrome screenshot extension called Fastary and found that moving image data to an Offscreen Document caused a 2-3 second lag. The Structured Clone Algorithm's serialization overhead made background processing slower than blocking the main thread directly. Transferable objects were not an option for the use case.
