One third of new ArXiv papers read as AI-written

A study of 12,750 ArXiv papers found that about 32% of new submissions read as machine-written. The detector, calibrated to a 0.4% false-positive rate on pre-LLM text, shows computer science leading at 65% and mathematics lowest near 0.7%. The flagged share climbed in two waves since ChatGPT.
