Michael Wessel has created the Perfect Paul ][, a drop-in DECtalk emulator card for the Apple ][ computer. The PCB uses a Raspberry Pi Pico (RP2040), an I2S DAC, amplifier, and speaker. It interfaces via memory addresses, allowing users to POKE DECtalk commands. The project brings the iconic speech synthesizer, famously used by Stephen Hawking, to 8-bit era hardware.
