A Linux kernel flaw, CVE-2026-46331 (pedit COW), lets unprivileged users gain root by poisoning cached setuid binaries in memory. The out-of-bounds write in act_pedit corrupts shared page-cache pages. A working exploit appeared within a day of the CVE assignment on June 16. Red Hat rates the flaw as important.
