Boeing equips its 777X widebody airliner with folding wingtips to bypass airport size limits. The mechanism uses hydraulic actuators to retract tips in roughly 20 seconds, shrinking the wingspan from 71.75 meters to 64.85 meters. This allows the aircraft to operate at standard gates while retaining efficiency gains from the larger wing design.
