El Nino Drought Hits Over Half of India

El Nino-induced drought now affects 53.2% of India's landmass, up from 46% a week ago, threatening kharif crops. Maharashtra is severely impacted, with 43.13% of its area in extreme or exceptional drought. The India Drought Monitor reports 33.4% of the country faces moderate drought or worse, with cumulative monsoon rainfall 15% below normal.
