Redis latency spikes traced to Linux kernel memory

Redis latency spikes during BGSAVE on m3.medium EC2 instances with 1GB data and 150k writes per second were not caused by disk I/O or fork(). The spikes originated from Linux kernel memory management during the child process saving the dataset.
