A 15-year-old Canon DSLR can output high-quality video streams with natural depth of field using the open-source firmware Magic Lantern. Canon intentionally disabled clean HDMI out on consumer models in 2009 to push professional videographers toward the enterprise cinema EOS lineup. The official Canon utility delivers only a laggy, low-resolution 480p stream.
