Meta sued over AI layoff discrimination

A group of 26 former Meta employees sued the company, alleging its internal AI tools discriminated against workers on protected leave during May layoffs that cut 10 percent of staff. The lawsuit claims Meta's AI systems, including Metamate, failed to account for approved absences when ranking employees for termination. Meta called the claims meritless and said decisions were made by people, not AI.
