Enterprise AI agent governance lags deployment

VentureBeat Research surveyed 573 enterprises in June 2026 across five agentic control layers. 57-68% plan to switch vendors within 12 months. Most deployed agents are chatbots; 71% said a quarter or fewer handle multi-step work autonomously. Two-thirds allow agents to push code to production on automated evaluations alone. 69% let agents share credentials, linked to higher security incidents.
