Indexing JSON in MySQL

MySQL 5.7.8 introduced the JSON data type but lacks direct JSON column indexing. MySQL offers two workarounds: generated columns in MySQL 5.7 or functional indexes starting in MySQL 8.0.13. These indirectly index parts of stored JSON documents for faster queries.
