China plans $295B national AI computing grid

China is drafting a plan to direct roughly 2 trillion yuan ($295 billion) toward a nationwide AI computing network connecting data centers into a unified grid. Officials want at least 80% of the technology, including AI chips, to come from Chinese suppliers. The National Development and Reform Commission is developing the blueprint, with China Mobile and China Telecom overseeing operations.
