Tarini Padmanabhuni founded DetectifAI after a deepfake voice scam tricked her grandfather into paying a ransom. The San Francisco startup licenses compact AI models that run inside smartphone operating systems to flag AI-generated voices during calls, without sending audio to the cloud. It already handles over 100,000 calls monthly for Indian financial institutions and is pitching phone makers.
