Former Microsoft engineer Dave Plummer rebuilt Notepad from scratch as TinyRetroPad, a 2.5KB assembly editor with no AI, telemetry, or bloat. It uses Windows' built-in RICHEDIT50W and includes Open, Save As, font selection, and printing. The fork is based on Matt Power's Dave's Tiny Editor.
