NYT says OpenAI hid evidence in copyright trial

The New York Times and The Daily News allege OpenAI lied about its ability to search ChatGPT logs and training data for copyrighted works. A deposition revealed OpenAI engineer Vinnie Monaco had already conducted internal searches and built a database of 78 million de-identified conversations. The plaintiffs claim OpenAI deleted billions of outputs after the lawsuit was filed.
