New York plans to study a Thermal Energy Network at the Brooklyn Bridge 4/5/6 and Chambers Street J/Z station complex, where summer temperatures reach 96 °F. Boreholes hundreds of feet deep would circulate fluid to pull heat from the station into cooler bedrock, storing it as a winter thermal battery for nearby buildings. The project is currently only a study.
