Supreme Court Quashes NSA Detention Over Confession

The Supreme Court ruled that a confession cannot justify detention under the National Security Act, quashing Mulla Afroz's preventive detention by Uttar Pradesh Police. Afroz was held in October 2025 over 2024 Sambhal communal violence. The court imposed a Rs 10 lakh cost on the government for the illegal order. The NSA allows detention without court appearance.
