Google Research's MAPL-EMIT model automates methane plume detection from NASA's EMIT satellite data, achieving 84% recall on expert-annotated plumes. Trained on 3.6 million synthetic plumes, it identifies 50% more plausible plumes across 1,100 EMIT granules. The model and database are released on Earth Engine, Kaggle, and GitHub.
