GitHub Migrates Git Data to Azure

GitHub began moving Git repositories to Azure in August 2025 to solve capacity limits. The shift addresses a 25ms round trip latency by changing how writes are serialized. This architecture allows agents and developers to push code faster by decoupling storage from compute and scaling read replicas independently.
