AI could turn material dents into smart surfaces

Researchers from Lingnan University propose that naturally formed wrinkles and dents in materials could be engineered with AI-assisted design to create novel functional materials. The concept is detailed in a collaborative review paper published in Nano-Micro Letters titled "Harnessing Surface Instabilities for Functional Materials: Mechanics, Morphology, and Emerging Applications.
