NASA X-59 jet breaks sound barrier in test flight

NASA's X-59 jet exceeded Mach 1.1 at 43,400 feet on June 5, piloted by Jim Less. The experimental aircraft aims to produce a quiet thump instead of a sonic boom, potentially enabling supersonic passenger flights over land. NASA and Lockheed Martin designed the X-59 for the QUESST mission.
