PlanetScale Launches Metal Database
8 min read
PlanetScale launches Metal, a database offering local NVMe storage to eliminate network latency. The service handles trillions of queries across petabytes of data. Benchmarks show an i7i instance with 1.8 TB local NVMe drives costs $551.15 monthly, delivering around 300,000 IOPS, which is significantly faster than EBS-backed databases limited to 3,000 IOPS.
