Cloudflare Acquires Deno for Open Source Future

Cloudflare acquired Deno, the company behind the JavaScript runtime, to expand its Workers platform. Sequoia backed Deno with $21 million in 2022, and the project amassed 400,000 monthly users as of August. Cloudflare will maintain the runtime for a year before ending development, while Dahl and 12 colleagues build out open-source self-hosting capabilities.
