NATO allies, including British, Norwegian, and American forces, confronted Russian naval vessels near Svalbard after detecting preparations to test a secret device. The device, linked to Russia's GUGI military organization, was intended to cut subsea communications cables while leaving no traceable evidence. The operation did not damage any cables, but officials confirmed the rehearsal targeted two 1,400km fiber-optic lines supporting NASA's Near Space Network.
