An analysis of 23 critical open source projects reveals that 11 rely on one or two people for regular work between 7 October 2025 and 7 October 2026. The study found xz had a single contributor, Lasse Collin, who made 97 percent of changes in 2025. Eight projects showed no public grant funding.
