NASA's Swift Observatory plunged to Earth on Wednesday, ending its 22-year investigation of gamma ray bursts. The reentry occurred less than three months after a failed rescue mission by Katalyst Space in September. The 1 ½-ton spacecraft burned up during descent, though some denser pieces may have survived.
