How much would the Steam Machine cost to build?

Building a PC matching the Steam Machine's performance and size costs more than its $1,049 base price. Off-the-shelf Mini-ITX parts cannot replicate Valve's custom motherboard, cooler, and laptop-class components. A comparable DIY build ends up larger and more expensive.
