OpenAI and Anthropic both shipped new models on Tuesday, GPT-6 Sol and Luna and Claude Opus 5.5, cheaper versions of existing flagships. Anthropic's frontier release cadence roughly doubled in 2026, from every 46 days to every 26, yet genuinely new flagship models still arrive at a similar pace, making launch counts a poor proxy for real progress.
